Stunning video celebrates Irish diaspora as St Patrick's Day is marked around the world

Government-produced video has been viewed by more than 2 million people

As Irish people across the world prepare to celebrate St Patrick's Day, a stunning video has been released highlighting the importance of Ireland’s 70 million diaspora.

Produced by the Irish Government, the video features spectacular scenery from Ireland and short videos of Irish people of all ages who are living and working in countries all over the world.

The images and videos of Irish people abroad are accompanied by a version of Snow Patrol's 'Run' which was specially arranged for the video by conductor David Brophy who also assembled the choir.

The performance, featuring lead singer Juliette Crosbie, was recorded at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The opening sequence of the three-minute video features a caption which reads “Ireland is an island where 7 million people live. This St Patricks day we are thinking of those who have travelled to and from our shores” before the first of the diaspora are introduced to viewers.

A wide variety of countries and cities feature in the video including Columbia, Canada, Japan, the United States , Italy, Australia, Germany, Cyprus, Indonesia, England, Mexico, Malawi, Germany, Spain and Ukraine.

The video which was released on Saturday morning has already been viewed by more than 2 million people
