Events at Donegal Town's Franciscan Abbey, St Johnston, and Glenveigh National Park
Walk in the Footsteps of the Lough Eske friars
Lough Eske Heritage and Community Group offers the chance to walk in the footsteps of the Franciscan friars who once inhabited Lough Eske, learning about important historical sites along the picturesque route.
The walk will include talks from locals about the monastic Friary from which a local townland took its name, the site of one of their cells and the O’Donnell Island prison site.
It will be followed by a talk at Harvey’s Point hotel by local historian Helen Meehan, music by local musicians and light refreshments.
The walk will start and finish at Harvey’s Point Hotel, meeting at 6.30pm on Friday, August 22, and is suitable for all ages.
A voluntary donation of €10 per adult will be used for future heritage events and community initiatives.
