Met Éireann has issued a weather warning for Donegal ahead of the arrival of Storm Ashley this weekend.

The forecaster named the storm on Friday morning as it issued a yellow wind warning for Donegal and the entire country with orange warnings in place in Galway and Mayo on Sunday.

"Storm Ashley will bring strong and gusty southerly winds, coupled with high spring tides," said a Met Éireann spokesperson.

The forecaster said possible impacts of the storm, which is the first named storm of the season, include fallen trees and branches, difficult driving and cycling conditions and debris, and loose objects could be displaced.

The wind warning will be in place in Donegal from 10am on Sunday to midnight on Monday, October 21.
