Enjoy it while it lasts! Met Éireann in grim Ireland weather u-turn after sun blast

Ireland is currently basking in a mini warm spell of weather but the conditions are not set to last long, according to Met Éireann's latest weather prediction for the country.

While temperatures could reach 22C on Saturday, Met Éireann's outlook says our weather looks like "becoming more changeable and mixed again for the early days of September and the meteorological Autumn with low pressure taking hold, bringing showers or longer spells of rain. But there'll be some good dry spells in parts with some sunshine."

We will have a few more days of warm weather but it may be a case of enjoy it while it lasts. Met Éireann's forecast for Friday predicts temperatures of around 20C and it may get warmer on Saturday.

"Saturday will be a pleasant, dry day with good sunny spells and plenty of sunshine," Met Éireann confirmed.

"It'll become a bit cloudier along south and southeastern coasts in the evening. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees with mostly moderate southeast winds, warmest across the midlands and west.

"Mainly dry with good clear spells for a time [on Saturday night]. Cloud will continue to increase from the south overnight, bringing a few showers or a few spots of light rain and drizzle, mainly into parts of south Munster and south and east Leinster. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds.

"There'll be a good lot of dry weather for a time on Sunday in most areas with some bright or sunny spells, especially further to the north. It's likely to be mostly cloudy from early on though in the east and south with a few spots of light rain and drizzle here and there.

"Through the afternoon, it'll become increasingly cloudy in general with persistent and at times heavy rain starting to move in from the southwest. That rain will slowly spread northeastwards over the course of the rest of the day, mainly over Munster, Connacht and south Leinster. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in freshening southeasterly winds.

"Rain will continue to move slowly northeastwards on Sunday night, some of it heavy. However, a clearance will follow from the southwest to most parts overnight, with a scattering showers following into the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 14 degrees in mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, southeast winds, veering southwest to west as the rain clears, decreasing mostly light to moderate, but fresh to strong along the west coast.

"Rain will linger for a time in the north and northeast, before clearing, otherwise Monday will bring some sunshine but with showers too. At this stage it looks like the showers will be most widespread in the west and southwest, some heavy and possibly thundery and with a longer spell of rain possible further west. The best of the dry weather with sunshine will be further east. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds, stronger along the west coast.

"Similar temperatures on Tuesday with that mixed weather continuing. So there'll be some sunshine in parts, but further showers or longer spells of rain too, some of it heavy, with the chance of thunder."

Beyond that, Met Éireann says there is "a lot of uncertainty, and while low pressure is likely to continue to dominate, there is still a chance that high pressure may build again to bring the possibility of drier weather over the following couple of days."
