Cool temperatures on the way as blanket of cold expected to settle over Ireland

Cool temperatures can be expected for early this week as a colder airmass arrives and settles over the country.

Met Éireann is reporting that temperatures are 'cooler than recently' this Tuesday, with highs of 12 degrees in the northwest to 17 degrees in the southeast.

Westerly winds are making the air feel even cooler than what it is as they are expected the 'veer northwesterly' and turn 'occasionally gusty'. 

Brighter weather can be expected, however, as plenty of sunshine is forecast nationwide.

Met Éireann report says: "Continuing to be fairly cool over the following few days but with good spells of sunshine to compensate.

"There'll be a good lot of dry weather too for many areas, but further scattered showers too.

"There's a chance it'll become mainly dry later in the weekend and for early next week with high pressure playing a more dominant role, with light winds and with temperatures recovering a little."
