A charity music event held in Letterkenny has raised an amazing €42,559 for the Irish Cancer Society.

Mike Toner, originally from Middle Road, Ballyraine in Letterkenny, is based in Melbourne, Australia, where he works as a music promoter and has also done incredible work for charity. He and his cousin Reuben Keeney, also from Letterkenny, decided to organise the event, which took place at Blake’s Bar, with over 3,000 applications for 200 attendees.

Reuben (aka Rebūke) and Patrick Topping, two internationally acclaimed DJs, rocked the venue, with an initial target of €10,000, which was obtained in no time.

Mike's inspirational sister, Louise, a married 45-year-old mother-of-three, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which spread to her bones and spine, and helped front the fundraiser.

“On behalf of Reuben and myself, I would just like to say the most massive thank you to everyone who donated to our Cancer Research Fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society on Saturday,” Mike shared.

“Through a big team effort, we raised €42,559, which far exceeded our expectations, and we are blown away by the generosity of all those who donated.

“Huge thanks to legend Patrick Topping, who took time out of his crazy, busy summer schedule to help make this gig happen. Anyone who was there definitely felt that Reuben and Patrick put the FUN in fundraising, and the vibe of the gig was so special.

“I was so wrapped to be able to celebrate my 50th birthday with my amazing sister Louise and the rest of my close friends and family for this epic gig!

“Huge thanks to Kevin and all the team at Blakes Bar for letting us hijack their courtyard for the day. Not a normal Saturday night there, and someone commented to me that they had been to 6pm mass at the Cathedral and you could hear the bass from the gig at mass!

“Also huge thanks to Gary Collins for pulling all the ops together for the big day, and to Donal McCarthy, the team at PurpleWall for being the brains behind this and, as always, helping with execution! Special mention to everyone who really helped spread the word in the media and on socials - we had so many donations from people we did not know and can only attribute this to the support we received from you.

“As my amazing sister reminded everyone, cancer treatment is moving at a phenomenal rate now thanks to continuous research being done, which is not only extending but improving the quality of life of so many cancer patients. The fight goes on.”
