Luke McAteer was victorious at Dundalk

Donegal jockey Luke McAteer rode his first winner on his first ride in 2024 when teaming up with his great ally Barry Fitzgerald to land the six-furlong maiden on 11/2 chance Genesis at Dundalk on Friday evening.

Owned and bred by Michael and Ruth Foley, the three-year-old made almost all the running under to beat the Edward and Patrick Harty-trained Mary Shoelaces by a cosy two lengths.

The winner’s half-brother Dandy Warhol won the same race, again with McAteer in the saddle, two years ago.

McAteer’s last race was three days before Christmas when he also finished first in Dundalk aboard David Marnane’s Freescape.
