The Brian McCormick Sports Cup made a visit to Letterkenny University Hospital on Sunday following Letterkenny Rovers’ dramatic final win over Keadue Rovers in Ballyare.

Goalkeeper Blake Forkan, a native of Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, broke his leg during the first half with the score 0-0 and was taken to hospital.

Letterkenny went on to win 4-3 with 17-year-old Davin Blake taking over between the sticks, in only his second senior appearance for the club. Keadue, who had been reduced to 10 men following Matthew Smith’s second yellow card, had levelled at 1-1 through Paul Yank Boyle and then went 3-2 up with Peter McGee scoring twice.

However, Letterkenny’s Aidy Delap made it 3-3 three minutes from the end before Lee McMonagle completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute to seal the victory, which made for a double following their success in the TDA Division First Division earlier in the season.

Substitute goalkeeper Blake,  his father and goalkeeping coach Tony, manager Stephen McConnell, joint-captain Ronan Curran, midfielder Christy Connaghan and club secretary Eric White went to the hospital to visit Forkan with the cup after the final.
