Mark English will line up at London's Olympic Stadium
Mark English will compete in the 800-metre event in London’s Diamond League meeting in a stacked entry list on Saturday, July 19.
The Finn Valley AC athlete, who broke the Irish record this year, with a time of 1.43.92, will step up to the start line at London’s Olympic Stadium with both the Olympic gold and silver medallists.
Paris’ 2024 Olympic gold medallist, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, and the Silver medallist, Marco Arop, are the star names in the men’s 800-metre programme list, which is scheduled to begin at 2.15pm.
Bryce Hoppel, Mohamed Attaoui, Gabriel Tual, and Max Burgin were 2024 Olympic finalists who also make up stiff competition for English in London.

English, ranked fourteenth in the world in 2025, has enjoyed a stellar season. After breaking the Irish 800-metre record in the Netherlands, he followed that up by clocking another sub-1.44 time in the Paris Diamond League meeting, where he finished sixth.
Tough competition in London will be seen as ideal preparation for Letterkenny’s English, as he prepares for the 2025 World Athletics Championships that takes place in Tokyo in September.
