Raphoe travelled to Mossley for another tough game in the Intermediate league at the weekend and suffered a 2-0 loss.

After a good victory last weekend, Raphoe were looking to keep the momentum going heading into Saturday’s fixture.

The first quarter started with a high tempo and both teams enjoyed lots of possession. The Raphoe midfield were asked to do a lot of battling to keep possession as both teams applied pressure looking for that opening goal.

The second quarter was evenly contested once again with both teams being awarded a number of short corners and both keepers pulling off a number of good saves as matters remained deadlocked at the break.

In the third quarter, Raphoe started strong, moving the ball well but struggling to create any scoring opportunities.

This allowed the home team to get settled back into the game causing Raphoe problems, winning a number of short corners.

The opening goal game from Mossley working a short corner round the Raphoe first runner and slotting a shot past the keeper into the net for 1-0.

In the fourth quarter, Raphoe came out fighting looking for an equaliser applying pressure but failing to find the target.

The experience of the Mossley side showed and they started to manage the game. Mossley picked up the tempo in the closing stages, managing to claim another goal from another well-worked short corner.

Raphoe have no game next week but will be looking to bounce back when they head to Newry for a semi-final match in the Linden Cup in a fortnight’s time.
