Roisin Hegarty gets her European Schoolgirls Championships underway on Tuesday.

The Letterkenny native and Illies Golden Gloves boxer is Ireland's 60kgs representative in Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Hegarty will face Varvara Parshikova from Russia in a quarter-final on Tuesday. A place among the medals is up for grabs when they trade leather.

The winner of that bout will square up to the winner of a quarter-final between Gracie Rochester from England and Turkey's Iremnaz Ozdemir on Thursday.

A daughter of Raymond Hegarty and Norma Tembo, she won the National Junior Cadet title at 60kgs when beating Olivia Farrell from St Brigid's, Edenderry.

Already, Hegarty is a three-time Irish champion and the 12-year-old is part of a 29-strong Irish team for these Championships.

Hegarty won her first national title in 2023, claiming the Girl 1 51kgs honours, and she won the Girl 2 57kgs crown earlier this year.

“It feels very good to be going away now,” Hegarty told Donegal Live. “I'm buzzing for it.

“I really hope I can come back with any medal.”
