Donegal cricketer Scott Macbeth has been named in the Ireland Under-19 squad for next month’s ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Ballindrait man Macbeth is among the 15-strong panel selected to make the trip to South Africa.
Macbeth is one of four players on the squad who were part of the Ireland squad for the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in West Indies. Macbeth makes the cut again alongside Daniel Forkin, Reuben Wilson and captain Philippe le Roux adding vital experience to the group.
Macbeth plays for Brigade Cricket Club having previously moved from St Johnston CC to Bready in 2022. Macbeth is one of two players form the North West Cricket Union to feature in the Ireland squad with Bready’s Gavin Roulston also in the mix.
Ireland begin their Group A phase on January 19 against USA at Manguang Oval in Bloemfontein before taking on Bangladesh and India, the holders, at the same venue on January 22 and January 25.
Ireland qualified automatically for the tournament following their tenth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup.
Macbeth has been a regular in the Ireland shirt lately.
In August, he clipped a superb 90-not-out as Ireland defeated England by 72 runs at Loughborough. At the European Cricket Championships in Malaga in October, Macbeth blitzed a fine 45-not-out off just 12 balls in a win over Hungary.
