Letterkenny boxing greats gathered on Thursday evening as Paddy McShane was given a civic reception by the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
Letterkenny Boxing Club's McShane became the Irish elite flyweight champion in October 2021 when beating Paudraic Downey from Antrim on a 3-2 split decision.
Following that win for McShane, Councillor Donal 'Mandy' Kelly successfully proposed a motion to hold a reception.
Councillor Kelly, now the Letterkenny-Milford MD Mayor, hosted Thursday's reception at the public services centre.
McShane had won Boy 3, Boy 4, Junior Cadet and Senior Cadet crowns before joining Donegal's list of elite champions.
When McShane took his win in 2021, he was the first Letterkenny BC elite champion since Eamonn Coyle 39 years previously.
Coyle, the 1982 super-heavyweight kingpin, was in attendance on Thursday. There, too, were Malachy Price, a three-time Irish youth champion in the 50s, Niall McLaughlin, the Irish junior-welterweight champion from 1971 and John Ward, the Glenties native who won the junior heavyweight title while boxing for Letterkenny BC in 1969.
Members of the County Donegal Boxing Board, led by the President Peter O'Donnell, were also present.
