Paddy Gallagher is presented with his award.

Paddy Gallagher has been honoured for a lifetime’s work in sport by Sport Ireland.

The former Sports Officer at Letterkenny Institute of Technology, now Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal, was presented with an award recently.

Sport Ireland presented him with an Outstanding Contribution to Third Level Sport award.

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Una May and Matthew Dossett, Chairman Student Sport Ireland, made the presentation.

Paddy retired in March 2021, having fulfilled a long number of years of dedication to the development of sport at the Port Road campus.

A native of Ballybofey, Paddy worked for 25 years with the VEC until joining the college, then known as the Regional Technical College, in 1993.

Initially working in salaries and then student services, he was appointed as the Sports Officer in 2012 following the retirement of Patsy McGonagle.

ATU Donegal Students Union said: “The SU would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Paddy on this thoroughly deserved award and thank him for his contribution to sport at LYIT over the years.”
