A nine-year-old Manorcunningham schoolboy is making waves in karting.

Jayden McElhinney, who has only been karting for just over a year, finished third in the Ulster Karting Championship.

A third class pupil at Ray NS in Manor, he has been raising eyebrows in championship races held at the likes of Nutts Corner, Athboy, Whiteriver and Pallas Karting Centre.

A son of Kelvin and Clara McElhinney, he was in action last weekend in round 8 of the Championship.

At Nutts Corner, Jayden, who races for the DMS team, won all of his races and will be officially presented with his third-place Championship finish at the annual awards function next month.

The family are no strangers to racing. His father, who acts as his mechanic, is well known in motorsport circles.

Grandfather Uel McElhinney is another who needs little by way of an introduction in motorsport.

Jayden began racing in August, 2023 and is firmly going up the gears.
