ALERT: Met Eireann urge caution amid new weather warning for three counties

The heavy rain and damp weather around the country has continued into the new week as Met Éireann provide the latest weather update. 

A status yellow rain warning has been issued for three counties which include Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo which started at 5am Monday morning and will be in place until 5pm. 

Met Éireann has warned that there'll be heavy showers and longer spells of rain in these counties in particular.

They say the consequences from the weather warning could include difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility which will put those making journeys throughout the counties on high alert. There will also be chances of localised flooding in the affected areas.

According to the latest Met Éireann update, Monday will be windy with widespread showers and longer spells of rain throughout the day. There will be also be some heavy rain with the chance of thunder in some areas particularly in the north and northeast where spot flooding is possible. 

Brighter conditions will develop throughout the day as rainfall should ease from the southwest in the afternoon. However, longer spells of rain will feature in some areas with temperatures ranging from 13-16 degrees with fresh to strong westerly winds. 

Monday night will be largely dry with clear spells developing and just isolated showers mainly in the west. Frequent and widespread showers should ease by Tuesday morning with lowest temperatures of 8-12 degrees.
