While out on patrol in an unmarked car, gardaí in Kildare were tailgated by a motorist on a busy road. The events that followed subsequently led to this motorist's arrest and seizure of their vehicle.
On Friday, September 12, members of the Naas Roads Policing Unit were keeping a watchful eye along the M4 when a motorist caught their attention for driving too close to their car.
Once this vehicle was stopped, a number of other shocking offences were detected by gardaí.
The driver in question did not have a valid license and only possessed a learner permit which expired 13 years ago, in 2011. Along with this, the car also had no insurance.
Following further enquiries, it was then discovered that this individual had a live bench warrant in existence. They also tested positive on a drugs test for cocaine and benzodiazepines.
Gardaí confirmed that this driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
Commenting on this was a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in the county, who said, "Please remember: driving without insurance or a licence puts everyone at risk. Never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol."
