The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) has warned that issues with number plates can often result in an NCT visual failure.
The NCT or MOT number plates that a road legal and needed for everyday driving and testing your vehicle are the NCT printed, NCT 4D and NCT Meta plates, any alternative number plates will incur a visual fail.

Numbers, letters and the background must be the correct size and colour and there must be no missing numbers or letters.
The NCT has also warned that if one or both number plates are missing, not properly secured or not clearly visible, this will also result in the vehicle failing the NCT.
This comes as the NCT reminded motorists of their new higher fees with an initial test costing drivers €60, a re-test now €40 instead of €28.
Drivers who cancel their appointment with less than five working days' notice or fail to show up will incur a fee of €24 for a full test or €16 for a re-test.
