Officers said that at approximately 3.30am on Monday, emergency services were alerted after a man, aged in his 40s, was found unresponsive at a residence in Carrick-on-Suir.

Gardai said they are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of his body.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out by the deputy state pathologist, Dr Yvonne McCarthy, and preliminary results have been provided to the investigation team.

These details are not being released for operational reasons, gardai said.

Following the post-mortem examination, gardai have commenced a murder investigation.

They are appealing for anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, including any road users who were in the area of Cregg Road, Carrick-On-Suir, between 8pm on Friday and 3.30am on Monday.

Additionally, anyone who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and was travelling in the area at the time is asked to make it available to gardai.
