Irish holidaymakers hit with major warning amid record breaking weather in Spain and Portugal
Irish people heading to Spain and Portugal over the next week have been advised to expect scorching temperatures as some parts of the countries have been hit with weather warnings for heat and even thunderstorms.
Over the past few days Spain's national weather service, AEMET, has reported record temperatures in some parts for the month of May and Saturday, 31 May is set to see temperatures peak to 42 degrees.
AEMET has so far issued orange and yellow weather warnings for many parts of Spain expected to be impacted by the extreme heat over the weekend.

With these soaring temperatures heavy thunderstorms have followed and more are expected over the coming days as the heatwave looks set to continue in the Iberian Peninsula.
As secondary schools across the countries are due to begin their summer holidays this week, many Irish people will be packing their bags and heading abroad over the next few days.

With Spain and Portugal top of the list of destinations for Irish holidaymakers, people have been warned to prepare for the adverse weather conditions.
The most impacted parts of Spain and Portugal include Seville, Lisbon, Cordoba, Tarragona and Valle del Guadalquivir.
