When the coveted number one slot was revealed, listeners were less than impressed
What was supposed to be a celebration of music's greatest hits from the last 25 years has turned into anything but after Today FM released their much-anticipated results of the 'Big 500 Countdown.'
The segment was ran across the Easter bank holiday weekend, where presenters were encouraging listeners to vote for their top song of the last 25 years. However, when the coveted number one slot was revealed, listeners were less than impressed.
In fact, the number one pick has ignited a wave of online outrage and heated debates, with some calling the whole segment "a scam" and others saying they demand a "recount."
So, who exactly took the controversial 'Big 500 Countdown' crown and why are people so enraged about this?
Dubbed the 'Midwest Princess', American singer and songwriter Chappell Roan snagged the top spot with her song 'Pink Pony Club' which has amassed over 600 million streams globally.
Believe it or not, this was not Ms Roan's first time appearing in the top 500, as 'Hot To Go!' narrowly missed out on the top 20, coming in at 21.

Many listeners took to social media to share their reaction to the singer, who newly rose to fame, beating out the likes of Hozier, Coldplay, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.
One person wrote on X, "Pink Pony Club at number one is lowkey the scam of the century Today FM."
Another commented, "The Today FM Big 500 once again proving democracy is not necessarily a good thing."
A third said, "Nah, Today FM you have to be messing. Of the last 25 years this is number one? Surely not!"
Another person asked, "Seriously, what's the number one song? Today FM, I want a recount."
Another annoyed listener said, "Oh Today FM, I could justify any one of those top 10 songs as number one and then you make Pink Pony Club the number one song over the last 25 years. What a joke."
In the top 10 of the 'Big 500 Countdown' was of course 'Pink Pony Club' then followed by 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers, 'Take Me To Church' by Hozier, 'A Sky Full Of Stars' by Coldplay, 'Lose Yourself' by Eminem, 'Back To Black' by Amy Winehouse, 'Yellow' also by Coldplay, 'Too Sweet' by Hozier, 'Sex On Fire' by Kings of Leon and 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol.
