Irishman dies in popular holiday destination after 'collapsing' on busy road

The incident happened in Pollensa, a town on the northern part of the island

An Irishman has reportedly died in Mallorca after he "collapsed" on a road in the historic town of Pollensa in the north of the island.

The 59-year old man is said to have falling off his bike on the Ma-2210 road that links the popular Port de Pollensa resort to the Formentor Lighthouse.

Authorities were alerted around 4pm on Tuesday evening and paramedics arrived shortly after to try an revive him but unfortunately there was nothing they could do.

An investigation is underway by the local Civil Guard with an autopsy expected to take place at some stage on Thursday. 

It's not entirely clear whether the man was living in Mallorca or on holiday there.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have said they are "aware of reports and stands ready to provide consular assistance".
