Gardaí appeal for witnesses after man in his 60s seriously assaulted at residence

Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses after a man in his 60s was left seriously injured following an assault at a residential property in Kilmainham, Dublin on Tuesday, 1 April. 

Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of an unresponsive man found within a flat at the Old Convent on Basin Street in Kilmainham around midday on Tuesday. 

The man is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital and An Garda Síochána have said that "his condition is understood to be serious."

It has been confirmed by gardaí that a man aged in his 20s has since been arrested in connection with the incident. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in Dublin. 

The scene of the incident has been forensically examined and remains preserved. 

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses with information regarding the incident to contact Kilmainham Garda Station at 01 666 9700 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.

They added that the investigation is ongoing.
