ALERT: Penneys recall popular product over fears of harmful chemical exposure

Penneys has recalled over 3000 sold products across Ireland over fears of harmful exposure that could result in potentially damaging children's reproductive system. 

The recall of the Primark DTR Stitch SL 4pk Scented Highlighters was issued on Wednesday, March 26, and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission say there are approximately 3356 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

The risk presented by the product is chemical due to exposure to restricted phthalates over permitted limits in the tip of the lid. Exposure to phthalates can harm children’s health by potentially damaging their reproductive system.

The brand is Primark. The bar code is 5397314970231. The Kimball number is 0688701. This product was sold in store between May 2024 and January 2025.

What to do

If you believe that you may have purchased an affected product, discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.

If you have purchased this product then please return it to any Penneys/Primark store where you will be offered a full refund. No proof of purchase or receipt is needed.
