A murder investigation is underway following the discovery of a man's body at a house in County Wexford on New Year's Eve.
In an update, issued this Wednesday evening, gardaí say they continue to investigate the death of a 58-year-old man named locally as John O'Connor, following an incident in New Ross.
"A post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist earlier today (Wednesday) and preliminary results have been provided to the investigating team. Details of these results are not being released for operational purposes.
"Following the post-mortem, An Garda Síochána has now commenced a murder investigation," confirmed a spokesperson.
A male, aged in his 30s, who was arrested in connection with the investigation on Tuesday afternoon remains in garda custody. He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in the Eastern Region.
A second individual who was arrested later on New Year's Eve has been released from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and is no longer being held in connection with the investigation.

Gardai say an examination of the scene by members of the Garda Technical Bureau is continuing.
"A senior investigating officer is leading the investigation from the incident room at New Ross garda station. A family liaison officer continues to provide support the family," said a spokesperson.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them and they are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Cluain Fada, New Ross at the time of the Tuesday's incident.
