Woman aged in her 70s dies in Co Carlow road collision

A woman in her 70s has been killed in a road crash in Co Carlow.

Gardai have appealed for information about the incident on the N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue at around 6.30pm on Friday.

A car collided with the pedestrian who died at the scene.

Her body was taken to the mortuary in Waterford Regional Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The male driver in his 20s was uninjured.

A gardai spokesperson said: “The N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue, Carlow, is currently closed and will remain closed overnight.

“A technical examination of the scene by Garda forensic collision investigators will take place in the morning.

“Local diversions are in place.

“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.”
