Cost of NCT tests and driving licences are set to rise from January 1

Hard-pressed motorists are facing a raft of price hikes from the beginning of next month, the Road Safety Authority has announced.

The State agency has confirmed the cost of NCT tests for private cars, CVR tests for commercial vehicles and purchasing driving licences will all increase - by up to 42% - from January 1, 2025.

In a brief statement confirming the increases, the RSA said: "As part of business planning for the coming year, including planned €18m expenditure on public interest activities and government priorities, there will be adjustments to fees for a number of RSA services, effective January 1, 2025."

RSA price increases

* Driving Licence: Increase from €55 to €65 (18%)

* Learner Permit: Increase from €35 to €45 (28%)

* Full Test under the National Car Test: Increase from €55 to €60 (9%)

* Retest under the National Car Test: Increase from €28 to €40 (€42%)

* Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test: 15% increase in the pre-VAT cost
