'One of Ireland’s most wanted fugitives' Sean McGovern identified as Irish national arrested in UAE
Interpol has confirmed that the Irish national arrested on Thursday 10 October in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was Sean McGovern, an alleged high-ranking member of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group.
According to Interpol, the 38-year-old was arrested in the UAE and taken into custody by Dubai police on Thursday following the publication of an Interpol Red Notice, or an international wanted persons alert.
Secretary General of Interpol, Jürgen Stock commented on the arrest, saying: "One of Ireland’s most wanted individuals has been arrested thanks to the combined efforts of the Irish authorities and the United Arab Emirates.

"Cases like this underline the value of international police cooperation via Interpol’s global network, and again highlights that no fugitive can consider themselves safe from justice."
McGovern is wanted for charges including murder and directing an organised crime group.
He will be held in the UAE pending extradition proceedings.
