Pair in 70s killed in Donegal crash

A man and a woman aged in their 70s have died in a car crash in Donegal.

The crash involved two cars and occurred on the N56 near the village of Kilmacrennan at about 11.50pm on Wednesday, gardai said.

The pair, who were in the same car, were both killed in the collision.

Post-mortem examinations are yet to be carried out but the local coroner has been notified.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene, and the road was closed overnight. Local diversions are currently in place.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, of the incident have been asked to provide it to investigators.
