Some Irish parents are set to receive early child benefit payment this summer.

This August, eligible parents will get child benefit payments from the social welfare a weekend earlier than expected, before August 5.

The payments will be handed out earlier due to the bank and post office closures on Monday August 5. Instead, people will receive their pay packets on August 2 or August 3.

See below a list of Child Benefit payment dates for the rest of the year, and the months they will most likely be paid early:

  • Tuesday, September 3
  • Tuesday, October 1
  • Tuesday, November 5
  • Tuesday, December 3

This payment ahead of schedule comes just months after the Department of Social Protection revealed a huge change to child benefit earlier in the year.

Starting on May 1, child benefit will be handed out to anyone who is 18 and in full-time education or who has a disability, up until their 19th birthday.

This will affect around 60,000 children annually.
