Tourist aged in her 80s attacked and robbed in Killarney

The woman was assaulted by a lone robber during the ordeal and was treated for injuries

A woman aged in her 80s, believed to be a tourist, who was attacked and assaulted in Co Kerry is being treated for her injuries.

Gardaí in Killarney are appealing for witnesses following an incident of robbery and assault that occurred in Killarney, Co Kerry, on Monday, April 22.

Shortly after 8:30pm, a woman aged in her 80s was approached by a lone male and robbed of her handbag on Port Road, Killarney. It is understood the robber dropped the bag but stole some cash as he made his escape from the scene.

It is also understood that the woman is on holidays with her husband, possibly from the US.

The woman required medical treatment following the incident and while her injuries are not life-threatening, it has been reported that she may have a broken arm and a possible head injury.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Additionally, those with camera footage or motorists with dashcam recordings from the Port Road area of Killarney between 8:30pm and 9:00pm are asked to provide it to Gardaí.
