Gardaí were on high alert after witnessing a vehicle in front of them driving erratically while on Patrol in Kilkenny on Sunday evening.

"The motorist (using the term in its broadest possible sense) thumped into the kerb twice in his VW, 200 metres from the station and in front of the patrol car," a Garda spokesperson commented.

After witnessing the behaviour of the driver, Gardaí made a decision to stop the vehicle.

After consulting with the driver, they discovered that they had no insurance, no license, no tax and an insurance disc for another vehicle displayed.

Not only that, but the driver was disqualified and subsequently failed a roadside drug test, testing positive for cocaine.

The driver was charged and will be before the courts for several offences stemming from this, with likely more to follow after the Medical Bureau assess his blood sample.

"Driving's not for everyone," the Garda spokesperson concluded.
