National: Early-morning robbery saw man armed with gun and blade rob retailer

GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses which saw an armed male sporting a balaclava rob money from a retailer early in the morning.

The incident happened at approximately 6:35am at a retail premises in Derrinturn, Co Kildare earlier this Monday, December 18. The male was armed with a long bladed weapon and a firearm. 

Described as "tall and stocky", the male entered the premises and demanded money from the till. A sum of cash was taken.

He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, dark grey tracksuit sweater, black runners and a khaki-green balaclava.
 
The male was carrying a black shoulder bag with white pattern over his shoulder. No one was injured during the incident.
 
Investigating gardaí in Lexlip garda station are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.
 
Any person who was in the area of the Derrinturn Main Street between 6.15am and 6.45am this morning and who may have mobile phone or dash cam footage, is asked to make this available to gardaí.
 
Gardaí can be contacted at Leixlip station on 01 666 7800, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station. Investigations are ongoing.
