An urgent family appeal has been issued after an Irishman went missing in Tenerife in recent days.

Ryan Cooney left an apartment complex on the holiday holiday on Thursday wearing just shorts and runners and has not been seen since.

The Missing Persons Helpline Ireland posted an appeal for information and urged people to share the notice to help Ryan's family locate him.

The alert read: "Ryan Cooney, 28 years old, 5 foot 11, with dark hair, is normally clean shaven but might have stubble now.

"Ryan is on medication but hasn’t had it since Wednesday. He was last seen in Paraiso del Sol apartment in Playa de las Americas, he left the hotel on Thursday morning in just a pair of shorts and runners."

The report went on to say Ryan may have two black eyes as he was allegedly attacked and robbed of all his money and his phone.

Hospitals and Police in Tenerife have been notified and the police also have his passport, it is understood.

The family are receiving assistance from the Irish Embassy in Madrid which is aware of the situation.

A friend of Ryan's who is understood to also be in Tenerife took to social media and posted: "Ryan, please you have me worried sick brother. I told you everything will be ok. Please just come back, please, I'm begging you."
