'Do not provide personal information' - Gardaí warn of new scam circulating nationwide

Gardaí have issued a warning about a new scam in circulation nationwide.

The scam in question sends emails, texts and/or social media messages to potential victims offering a refund or allowance on bills and tax returns.

Gardaí posted about the scam on their official X account (formerly Twitter) this evening (October 29), and urged people not to click on any links or provide personal information in response to the messages.

An example of a scam message contains the following text: "GOV.IE: You are eligible for a discounted electricity bill under the Energy support scheme. You can apply here."

The recipient is then encouraged to click a link.

Gardaí posted the following screenshot:

If you have fallen victim to a scam, report the incident to your local Garda station.
