Gardaí are warning the public of a scam currently circulating in the community.
According to Gardaí, the email based scams involve correspondence claiming to be from An Garda Síochána.
In a statement released online, Gardaí stated: "We do not and will not contact a person that is under investigation in this way."
Some of the most common types of fraud committed in Ireland include payment card fraud, invoice redirection fraud, email fraud (otherwise known as phishing), and phone fraud (otherwise known as vishing or smishing).
Gardaí recommend always saying no to unsolicited callers or texters seeking private information (including name, address and date of birth as well as bank details), independently verifying any requests for information, and never using the contact details supplied to you by the caller or texter.
An Garda Síochána has confirmed they will never look for your banking PIN number or password, and will not ask you to transfer money or come to your home to collect your payment card, cheque book or cash.
