A total of 26 people have died on Irish roads this year to date, according to the latest figures.
In February 2024, eight people have lost their lives in road traffic collisions, the latest being this Saturday, February 17 in an overnight collision in Kilkenny where a man in his 20's was pronounced dead.
With 2023 being the highest number of road deaths recorded in a decade, this year's figures are cause for concern as they are close to matching last years.
26 people have died from January 1 to February 17, 2024. This is down two people on the same period last year, where 28 fatalities were recorded.
In the first 47 days of 2024, 25 people have been killed on Irish roads.
