Letterkenny Tennis Club seeks planning for all-weather dome

Application considered an 'important improvement' to club's infrastructure
Letterkenny Tennis Club has submitted a planning application for the erection of a fabric dome structure to enable play at the club in all weathers.
The listed applicant, Antoinette O’Keeney, Chairperson of Letterkenny Tennis Club, submitted the application for the erection of a new fabric dome over an existing tennis court, including a lightweight steel substructure covered with single-membrane PVC fabric, and all ancillary site works.
Within the cover letter of the submitted application, it was stated: “The purpose of the proposed development is to provide the tennis club with a covered playing facility, enabling year-round use of the court regardless of weather conditions.
“This will significantly enhance the usability of the existing facility, particularly during periods of inclement weather, and will support increased participation, training, and community use.
“The provision of a covered court is considered an important improvement to the club’s infrastructure, promoting active recreation and extending the operational capacity of the Facility.”
Letterkenny Tennis Club, which contains five tennis courts and two mini-courts, was founded in 1997 by tennis enthusiasts in Letterkenny and the wider region.
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for June 25.
