A plaque was unveiled by the Ulster GAA President, Michael Geoghegan, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Buncrana Cup.
The Buncrana Cup was set up in 2000 in memory of the Omagh bomb victims. Now in its 25th year, the annual U16 inter-county Gaelic football development tournament is played as a tribute. The Buncrana Cup Final took place at The Scarvey and the result was Tyrone 1-21 to Mayo 2-13.
The Omagh Bombings, which took place on August 15, 1998, claimed a total of 29 lives. Three young Buncrana boys - Oran Doherty (8), Seán McLaughlin (11) and James Barker (13), along with young Spanish student Fernando Blasco Baselga (12) and group leader Rocio Abad Ramos (23), who were based in the town that summer, lost their lives.
“We unveiled a plaque that was erected at the clubhouse on Saturday at the 25th Buncrana Cup,” Buncrana GAA said. “The plaque is in honour of those who were injured and lost their lives in the Omagh Bomb on the 15th of August 1998, a day our town and further afield will never forget.”

The plaque reads: "The Buncrana Cup is dedicated to the victims of the Omagh bombing. We commemorate those that lost their lives. The injured. Their families and all affected by this tragedy. Cuimhnigh go deo."
