Cllr Declan Meehan met with Minister for Rural Transport and Community Development, Jerry Buttimer TD, during the Minister’s visit to Killybegs, to discuss a range of critical infrastructure and community development priorities for North Donegal.
Among the key issues raised was the need for improved rural bus services, with particular emphasis on the Downings–Milford–Letterkenny route. Cllr Meehan highlighted the growing demand for more reliable, frequent, and accessible public transport links in the Milford Electoral Area, stressing the route’s importance for commuters, students, local residents and the night-time economy.

Cllr Meehan stressed the importance of providing the existing provider with the necessary support to expand the number of services from Glen/Downings to Letterkenny via Milford.
The meeting also focused on the regeneration project for Rathmullan, where Cllr Meehan outlined the community’s and County Council’s vision for sustainable tourism, improved public amenities, and enhanced heritage preservation. He emphasised the potential for the project to boost economic activity and quality of life in the area.
In addition, Cllr Meehan discussed the critical Ten-T road projects in Donegal, urging strong support and timely implementation under the newly updated National Development Plan (NDP). He conveyed the importance of modern and safe road infrastructure to support regional development, attract investment, and improve connectivity across Donegal.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Meehan said: "It was a valuable opportunity to bring forward the voices and concerns of our communities directly to the Minister. I appreciate him taking the time to meet with me as part of a very busy schedule in Donegal. The support of the Department is crucial in ensuring our towns and villages are not left behind when it comes to transport and rural development. I will continue to advocate for sustained investment in Donegal’s infrastructure and services."
