Cars on Pond Street in Dunfanaghy on Saturday evening
Parking problems in Dunfanaghy have once again come under the spotlight, with particular concern about vehicles parking illegally, particularly on Pound Street.
Cllr Michael McClafferty of the Glenties MD says the ongoing issue is causing significant disruption in the village, with parked cars in non-designated areas leading to traffic congestion, blocked sightlines, and potential safety risks for both drivers and pedestrians.

"This is something that has been brought to my attention repeatedly in recent weeks," he said. "The situation on Pound Street is particularly problematic. When cars are parked where they shouldn’t be, it doesn’t just slow things down — it can create real danger for people trying to cross the road or navigate tight turns."
The matter has already been raised with local Gardaí, who are aware of the concerns and are expected to increase monitoring of the area. Locals are now being urged to respect parking regulations and think of the broader impact on public safety.
With the busy summer season bringing increased footfall and traffic to the popular seaside town, residents and visitors alike are being asked to show consideration for others by only using designated parking spaces and avoiding obstructions.
“Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe and accessible for everyone. Being just a little more mindful of where we park can make a big difference,” Cllr McClafferty added.
