The Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has welcomed the commencement of a new state-of-the-art building with high-standard facilities at its Letterkenny campus.
A new 5,100m² building will be built at the Donegal Letterkenny campus, which will also include a new library, computer laboratories, classrooms, a lecture theatre, staff office accommodation, and extended dining facilities. The project also includes a new through-campus pedestrian and cycleway.
Capacity of ATU at Letterkenny will be increased by 600 students due to the new development.
The building will act as a ‘bookend’ development, linking to the existing campus building and providing the university with the physical infrastructure to support students in a modern, purpose-built environment and enhance the overall campus experience for staff and students.
Along with the new development in Letterkenny, ATU is also celebrating the commencement of a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) building at their Galway campus.
Both projects have reached this stage of development with the support of the National Finance Agency, the Higher Education Authority, and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science.

ATU President, Orla Flynn, said: “I’m truly delighted to see our two Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects commencing in Galway City and Letterkenny, and I want to acknowledge the patience of staff and students alike as these developments were awaited.
“The new buildings will not only enhance our campuses but provide much-needed space in areas where we have seen significant student growth.”
ATU’s Head of Capital Development, Eoin Bradley, commented: “This marks a significant milestone in the development of our campus masterplans for Galway City and Letterkenny.
“These transformative projects are key to the University’s long-term growth and evolution.”
Minister for Further and Higher Education, James Lawless TD, stated: “I’ve seen first-hand the transformative impact of buildings delivered under phase one of this PPP programme and the quality of what has been delivered.
“With today’s announcement, we are building on that success, delivering lasting educational infrastructure that will reinforce Ireland’s knowledge economy for years to come.”
