Donegal County Councillor Gerry McMonagle has been elected as the new chairperson of the Regional Health Forum West.
The Sinn Féin councillor took over the role from fellow Donegal representative, Cllr Ciaran Brogan, at today’s AGM in Galway. Cllr McMonagle said it was “an honour” and he looks forward to the year ahead.
Cllr Gerry McMonagle previously held the position of Chair in 2022/23. The monthly health forum brings together councillors from across the west-northwest region and senior HSE officials to discuss matters of public health.
It covers Donegal, Limerick, Galway, Clare, Leitrim, Mayo, North Tipperary, Roscommon and Sligo. In supporting the nomination, Donegal Sinn Féin councillor Gary Doherty commented that Cllr McMonagle is no stranger to the forum.

“The members of the forum will know he’s been very consistent in showing his deep passion for the health and wellbeing that we are elected to represent,” said Cllr Doherty.
“He understands the challenges that our communities face. He brings a spirit of empathy and a strong voice to the table.”
Cllr Gary Doherty was elected Vice Chair of the Regional Health Forum Committee and Mayo Councillor Michael Kilcoyne was re-elected as Vice Chair of the Forum for the coming year, having held the position for the past 12 months.
