The man was before Letterkenny Circuit Court
A man who was caught with large sums of cash in both a shoebox and a biscuit tin hidden in an oven at a house in Letterkenny has appeared in court.
Othniel Matonda, of Harmony Hill, Letterkenny, appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to four different charges.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of property being the proceeds of criminal conduct.
He was also charged and pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply.
The charges follow a number of incidents in and around Letterkenny on various dates.
On August 16, 2022, at Burnside Park, he was found in possession of a total of €3,960 in cash, €2,950 which was in a shoebox and a further €1,010 which was in a biscuit tin in an oven.
On January 6, 2022, Matonda was charged with possession of property being the proceeds of criminal conduct after €4,717.97 was transferred to the An Post account of another person.
He also pleaded guilty to another charge of possession of property being the proceeds of criminal conduct after €2,990 was credited to his Revolut account.
The accused also pleaded guilty to the possession for sale or supply of drugs after he was caught with a quantity of cocaine at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny on August 16, 2022.
Barrister for the accused, Mr Simon Gillespie BL, told the court his client had no previous convictions and was in full-time employment and requested a Probation and Welfare report.
Judge John Aylmer agreed to the request and adjourned the case for final sentence to the October sessions of the court.
