Deputy Charles Ward of the 100% Redress Party
Deputy Charles Ward highlighted the daily challenges experienced by Donegal wheelchair users with the Taoiseach in the Dáil today.
The Donegal Deputy said: “I met with members of the Irish Wheelchair Association outside the gates of Leinster House yesterday and listening to their experiences of trying to live a normal life in this country was truly heartbreaking.”
The 100% Redress Party TD said that many wheelchair users in Donegal are left isolated in their own homes due to the lack of accessible transport.
Deputy Ward asked: “Taoiseach, will you consider rolling out a Travel Assistance Scheme that responds to the needs of people with disabilities in their own locality, and will you commit to introducing a ‘Cost of Disability’ payment in Budget 2026?”

In reply, the Taoiseach said that accessibility issues have been examined by the Minister for Transport and that the government will look to the budget to see what can be done in terms of income supports for people with disabilities.
