Ramelton playground has been awarded €18,887 funding

Ramelton village has been awarded funding of €18,887 for the Installation of Accessible Equipment for its play area.

The funding is part of a €500,000 announcement from Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley.

The Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation provides funding to support city and county councils in upgrading existing playgrounds or developing new playgrounds. A total of 28 playgrounds and play areas around the country have been awarded funding in the 2025 scheme.

County Councillor for Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Pauric McGarvey, welcomed the announcement on social media. He posted: “Great news and delighted with the funding as it will directly benefit children and families in the Ramelton and surrounding area.

“Thanks to Donegal County Council for making the application and securing the €18,887 as the max funding was €20,000 per project. Councils also had to provide matching funding of at least 25 per cent of the cost of the project.”

Pat the Cope Gallagher TD for Donegal also said he was “delighted” with the funding.

Donegal Senator Nikki Bradley added to the praise, saying: “I am delighted to see this funding of €18,887 for playgrounds that will benefit so many children in Donegal. Every child should have access to a safe and modern play area.

“I look forward to seeing the completed project of Installation of Accessible Equipment in Ramelton Village. I know this project will have a major impact on the vibrancy of our local community.

“As part of this scheme councils had to consult with local children and young people to receive any funding, so children in Ramelton are at the heart of this project and I hope families across Donegal will avail of this upgraded play area.

“This funding will provide state of the art play areas for all children here in Donegal, encouraging them to play in safe surroundings.”
