Uninsured learner and novice driver in Letterkenny test positive for cannabis

The two drivers were stopped by the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit and a Garda spokesperson has issued a further warning about driving under the influence

Court awaits two motorists in Letterkenny caught suspected drug-driving. 

On Tuesday, an uninsured learning driver was stopped by the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit.

The driver subsequently tested positive for cannabis at the roadside and they were arrested. 

Their car was seized and court proceedings will follow.

The Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit stopped a novice driver who did not have 'N plates' displayed on their car on Wednesday.

This driver also tested positive for cannabis and an arrest was made. A fixed charge penalty notice will issue for the non display of 'N plates' (resulting in a fine of €120 and two penalty points). 

Further test results are awaited and court proceedings may then follow.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Help save lives on the roads by being a responsible driver. Never take dangerous risks.”
