The iconic Donegal craft soda, Football Special, will once again be available in Lidl stores nationwide
Football Special has announce that it will return to the shelves of over 200 Lidl stores across Ireland, from March 13, just in time for St Patrick's Day.
Following its successful nationwide debut in September 2024 as part of Lidl's Kickstart Supplier Development Programme, Football Special quickly became a customer favourite, leading to a sold-out release. The iconic Donegal craft soda, Football Special, will once again be available in Lidl stores nationwide.
Football Special is a fourth generation, family-owned soft drinks company based in the hills of Donegal. The original Football Special has been a beloved beverage in Ireland, for generations.

Originating in the 1940’s, to celebrate the many successes of local Football Club, Swilly Rovers, Football Special was designed for players to ‘fill the cup’ with an exciting, but non-alcoholic beverage. This distinctive craft soda combines a unique blend of ingredients to deliver a taste that has stood the test of time. Known for its refreshing flavour and nostalgic appeal, Football Special has garnered a dedicated fanbase, particularly in Donegal. One litre bottles of Football Special, Exotic Pineapple and American Cream Soda will be available nationwide in Lidl stores.
Seamus McDaid, Managing Director of Football Special, expressed his excitement: "We were overwhelmed by the support we received from people far and wide for the launch of Football Special nationwide into Lidl stores through their Kickstart Supplier Development Programme back in September.”
Going on to talk about the re-launch into Lidl, he added: “It was surreal to hear from Lidl that they wanted to re-stock Football Special on their shelves following the success of the initial launch. We really are so grateful to Lidl for this opportunity and to be able to bring Football Special to the masses once again.”
The Football Special team will be heading out to a few Lidl stores to hand out samples and chat all things Football Special on the week of the re-launch into Lidl.
