The main auto dealers in Donegal have joined forces and put their shoulders to the wheel in supporting Relay For Life Donegal by recreating the Donegal International Car Push, which took place in 2017.

However, it won’t be their shoulders in fact because this year they have enlisted the super strong members of the local gyms and fitness centres to do the pushing this time on Wednesday, May 21, at 7pm.

The combination of auto dealers and gyms and fitness centres will push a car around a Letterkenny route, starting at Divers Hyundai Garage and will head out the Neil T Blaney Road and turning left at the Joe Bonner Road traffic lights, joining up again on the Port Road, left at the Station House Roundabout, over past the Community Centre, back to the starting point again for a second lap.

To add to the excitement and fun, each dealer is organising a rally driver/celebrity driver to steer the car around the course and try to earn the bragging rights for 2025 for the dealership and gym/fitness centre.

The event is open to all the main auto dealers in the county and similarly, to the gyms/fitness centres. Each motor dealer will be paired with a gym/fitness Centre for the event. A launch night took place at the Mount Errigal and planning is underway for the event. A comprehensive set of rules are being drawn up and the vehicles will be “chipped” to ensure accuracy of the timing.

Relay for Life is the biggest cancer fundraising initiative across the world. It sees communities across the globe coming together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those facing cancer. Relay For Life is a celebration of solidarity and helps to raise awareness of the services provided by the Irish Cancer Society locally and nationally.

To provide these services requires significant funding and as only approximately 5% of the Irish Cancer Society's Annual Funding comes from Government Funds, it depends on events such as Relay For Life Donegal to help raise the monies needed.

Obviously not everyone will be able to be present on the day, but donations can be made online here
