Fianna Fáil TD Charlie McConalogue had his first appointment in the county having been named a Minister of State in the new Government.

“I was delighted to receive an invitation from Declan Kerr from the organising committee for this event, and I couldn't think of a more fitting engagement to start my tenure as Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy,” Minister McConalogue said.
“Sport, as we all know, plays a huge role in life here in Donegal, and it's occasions like that make us realise just how rich the county is in sporting talent. Our local sports clubs and sporting organisations do so much good work right across Donegal and I will do all I can to support them.
“I'd like to acknowledge the vision of the founding members of the Donegal Sports Star Awards - the first awards night was held in 1976 and the annual gathering continues to be as big and successful as ever.
“I commend those committee members who have played their part in making sure this annual event has continued to grow and evolve with the times over the last 49 years.
“Well done, also, to the present committee for pulling together another fantastic function - a huge amount of planning and preparation goes into staging an event like this which has once again attracted over 600 people. Thank you again for the invitation to be here for this special occasion. I hope you all have an enjoyable night and wish you all a successful 2025.”
